Mega Construx UNSC Razorback Blitz | Mega Construx Halo Set Review

Hi everyone – and welcome back to another review here on Podcast Evolved!

Today, we are taking a closer look at the UNSC Razorback Blitz. You can check out a full video version of the review you’re about to read above. Before we dive in, I wanted to give a shout out to the store where I was able to purchase this set! I was able to purchase it from my friends over at Jurassic Toys.

The Packaging gives us a good look at the Razorback and the figures which are included alongside it in this set. We also get a good look at the 2-in-1 build which can be made – allowing us to create a mini structure which feels reminiscent of a Halo Wars 2 Firebase. The back of the box gives us a better look at the alternative build, and also gives us a closer look at the rest of the 2021 assortment – mainly the Wasp and the Chopper.

We get four micro action figures in this set – with two Banished characters, and two UNSC characters. The UNSC Marine is nothing special to write home about here – although he does include ODST Shoulder Plates in the new brown colour scheme, which is a first for the Halo Infinite Marines. Kelly 0-87 is a very welcome to the more modern rendition of Blue Team which we saw in Shadows of Reach. I love the added paint applications which Kelly has for the shoulders and also her thigh armor, but I do wish she had the small 0-87 number print on her chest plate which both the Master Chief and Fred feature.

The Grunt Mule features a very similar design to the figure which was included in the blind bags season. It is worth noting that this figure does have different paint applications for the helmet, however, and that the backpack of the figure has some red additional paint applications which the blind bags version does not have. Lastly, but not least, we have the Brute Warrior – which comes with a surprising amount of paint applications. The figure packs in a tone of detail – and although I have some slight quality control issues on the paint of one foot, I absolutely love the design of this Brute. This pairs incredibly well with the Grunt from Wave Two of the Infinite blind bags too, which is a welcome colour consistency!

The Razorback itself is a surprisingly awesome build which impressed me a lot more than I initially expected. If you’ve built a Warthog before (namely the ‘hog from Warthog rally) then the build is very similar here, but it’s worth noting that there are lots of distinctions here which make the Razorback stand out in its own right. Most impressive to me where the sheer volume of printed details present on this vehicle – including some small details for brake lights and also ‘No Step’ signs which really help to reinforce how far Mega have come with their printing. There are loads of areas in this model which feel incredibly well detailed and capture the source material a lot better than I initially anticipated – even if I do feel as though the windscreen piece is still too narrow here.

The Razorback features the same new suspension system which the Warthog has – and it works really well on this model. The main feature of this model is its capability to carry characters in a troop transport capacity – and we can easily fit four Marines in the back of the vehicle. This looks awesome and really calls back to the Troop Transport Hog in fun ways. I really love how this vehicle looks when it’s fully loaded up. Unfortunately, the vehicle doesn’t feature a way to hold an accessory on the back like we see in the game, but we are willing to bet that we could easily modify this build to enable it to do this. The vehicle really does shine as a brand-new troop transport in our collections.

In conclusion, the Razorback is a fun new vehicle for Halo Infinite – and it’s represented well in Mega Construx form. Whilst I am still not a huge fan of the windscreen, the rest of the build is fantastic – and I am super excited to display this vehicle with my Marine collection.

That’s our thoughts – but we’d love to hear from you! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, and do head to our YouTube channel to check out an event more in-depth look at this set.

Evolved Digest – November 2021

We re only one month away from Halo Infinite’s release in December!!! Check out the latest Podcast Evolved content leading to the release of the most anticipated Halo game in over a decade!

Patreon Perks

First off, we just wanted to acknowledge our patrons and thank them for their continuous support over the last few years. We have really been able to do so much with the show and community that we could not have ever thought of doing without you.

Second, in a show of gratitude to our patrons, Evolved commissions Halo artwork from Halo community artists. Coming in just under the wire is the very latest piece by Christian Blanche (@QuintSays on Twitter), Hornet Assault. This piece depicts Sergeant Avery Johnson aboard a Hornet during Operation: TREBUCHET, flying to his sniper position in support of his squad’s hunt for an insurrectionist terrorist. If this sounds familiar, it’s because it is the prologue scene from Halo: Contact Harvest, and is an awesome introduction to the book and the Insurrection. You can check out the sample image below, and if you want a full-res digital copy, be sure to become a patron today. All tiers get a digital copy of the artwork, and certain tiers even get a poster of the piece mailed directly to their home!

Halo: Survival

If you have missed it, Podcast Evolved just wrapped up the final episode in the six-part non-canon Halo audio drama, Halo: Survival. Featuring Rhino Squad, Halo: Survival tells the story of an ONI mission gone awry and the squad’s efforts to complete the objective while also trying to do the most important thing: survive. You can catch all six episodes on the Podcast Evolved podcast feed, the Halo: Survival podcast feed, and our YouTube channel. Now that they are all out, this is a great time to sit down and binge the entire series!

An Infinite Amount of Lore

We are finally closing in on Halo Infinite’s release, and likewise we are finishing up the current seasons of our two lore series’, Road to Infinite and Character Dossiers. As we get closer to the launch of a brand new Halo campaign and a deluge of new Halo lore, both series are ramping up to a season finale focused on the most important parts of the Halo story that might play into the greater Halo Infinite narrative. This last month saw the coverage of both Doctor Catherine Halsey and the AI she created, Cortana in the Character Dossier series. Also, Road to Infinite finished up the last of the Halo timeline after Halo 5: Guardians, with a review of the most important events from 2559-2560, the two years leading to the Halo Infinite campaign.

That is all for this month! Be sure to check out the Evolved Digest: Blog Edition next month for the last Podcast Evolved content before everything changes with Halo Infinite! Thanks to everyone over the years for the support. Evolved!
